THE EUROPEAN ENERGY TRANSITION CONFERENCE

THE EUROPEAN ENERGY TRANSITION CONFERENCE

Welcome to Dijon in June!

Dijon is proud to host the European Energy Transition Conference for the first time, as an act of activism, in the noblest and most compelling sense of the term, at a time when the power of climate disinformation sometimes manages to shake principles, or even laws, that we thought were established.

As the capital and center of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, Dijon Métropole embodies a territory in just growth where life is good, both urban and rural, which corresponds precisely to what our fellow citizens aspire to today: a high level of quality of life and services; a scale of proximity which guarantees solidarity and efficiency of public action; but above all a strong commitment to urban ecology, with massive investments and numerous innovations as symbols of our unwavering faith in higher education and research.

Decisive choices were made in the 2000s and now allow us to carry out comprehensive and proactive action that serves as a benchmark at the European level.
The RESPONSE program, the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities program, and the Pilot Cities program: we champion a systemic, cooperative, and social vision recognized by the European Commission. A Dijon-based model for climate and energy transition is emerging, thanks to our ability to act across all sectors and maintain control of governance while forging partnerships with major private companies possessing strong expertise. This model of sustainable progress relies as much on structuring projects—most of which are operational and can be visited during these 2026 Conferences—as on local initiatives, broadly involving the region's socio-economic stakeholders and residents.
To put it another way, the issue of energy, but also that of biodiversity, are major challenges which are addressed in a cross-cutting manner in all our public policies: urban planning, land use and development, mobility, economic development, food, resource preservation, etc.

For the elected officials of Dijon Métropole, there is a conviction that energy is an essential service to which every citizen has a right, starting with the most vulnerable, implying a shift from a less technical vision of ecology in the neighborhoods to a vision that empowers residents and makes them active participants in their territory.

Hosting the Assises in Dijon, just a few weeks after the municipal and inter-municipal elections next spring, is also to reaffirm in unison with Bordeaux, Dunkirk and Strasbourg – co-organizers of the event – that the changes that lie ahead cannot succeed without local authorities.

Our territories have proven their ability to propose, decide, and implement. They are at the forefront of instilling the vital need to rethink our modes of production, consumption, and, more broadly, our way of life.

A MUST-ATTEND EVENT FOR 27 YEARS!
