Information
For several years, Dijon Métropole has been pursuing an ambitious strategy to accelerate the decarbonization of the region. Mobility is one of the major drivers of this transformation, particularly in a metropolis where travel flows related to major facilities and cultural events are significant.
This visit offers an opportunity to discover the projects being carried out around the Zénith concert hall in Dijon and its parking lot , in close collaboration with local partners and the metropolitan services. These initiatives aim to rethink mobility infrastructure through a comprehensive approach: local energy production, collective self-consumption, and optimized parking flow management.
The Zénith parking lot exemplifies this approach. Contemporary urban planning can no longer be limited to a single function: each space must combine ecological performance and services for residents within a systemic framework. The project developed integrates photovoltaic production and self-consumption of energy to power mobility infrastructure (tramway), integrated stormwater management, and the coordination of traffic flows. These experiments have also contributed to changes in the national regulatory framework, particularly regarding areas for collective self-consumption.
Beyond energy production, the redevelopment of the parking lot aims to improve traffic flow management and strengthen its role as a park and ride facility, while integrating features that promote soil permeability and better legibility of spaces.
The visit will also allow you to discover the Zenith of Dijon, a major facility in the metropolis which welcomes nearly 388,000 people each year, generating mobility flows on the scale of a wider regional area.
With 88% of motorists using cars, transporting spectators is generally considered the largest source of emissions in the carbon footprints of performance venues.
The S.Pass group and the Zénith de Dijon therefore wished to engage with the Métropole de Dijon in an ambitious CSR approach, aimed at promoting shared and active mobility among spectators.
To achieve this, the Zénith in Dijon was able to rely on a particularly well-developed local transport network, with a tram stop specifically serving the venue. A partnership was established with Keolis, operator of the DIVIA network, to offer tram users a dedicated customer experience: tram frequency and schedules are systematically adjusted by Keolis to the venue's schedule, tram timetables are displayed in the Zénith, and priority access is offered to spectators with a Divia pass.
A "cycling" route has also been designed to highlight active mobility, facilitated by a cycle path that connects the Zenith to the city centre: investments are being made by s.pass to install a secure bicycle parking facility in front of the Zenith, cycling spectators benefit from privileged access upon presentation of their helmet, and a storage facility is provided for helmets, batteries and other personal belongings.
A specific bus service, Eventshuttle, is also being tested on certain dates to offer spectators an on-demand transport service.
More generally, the Zenith team implements targeted communication methods to highlight the transport network of the metropolis and the region, and to help change the mobility habits of its spectators: highlighting "mobilities" on its website, a video film dedicated to the use of the bicycle, a "mobilities" kit for productions for systematic communication actions with the public.
This visit illustrates how a cultural facility and its parking infrastructure can become a concrete laboratory for the energy transition and decarbonized mobility.
