Wind energy enjoys a positive image among the majority of French people, but on the ground, multiple realities clash ; the integration of energy issues in general, and wind power in particular, is not a smooth process. Sometimes well-integrated locally, sometimes the subject of protest or rejection, wind farm projects are also the subject of numerous questions and sometimes misinformation.
ADEME, at both the national and regional levels, has conducted several studies, including the Wind Energy Panorama in Burgundy-Franche-Comté . The humanities and social sciences (HSS) thus shed light on the lived experiences of those living near a wind farm. This work leads to recommendations on four key issues: information, consultation, planning, and value sharing.
In 2026, Hespul launched the website eolien-et-territoire.info, which draws on the social sciences and humanities and aims to provide reliable information to answer questions from residents and local elected officials. This website is supported by ADEME (the French Agency for Ecological Transition) and by the French government through the DGEC (Directorate General for Energy and Climate). Regarding consultation, planning, and value sharing, stakeholder practices remain highly varied.
We aim to enrich this work with concrete feedback and best practices identified by stakeholders in the field. In a workshop setting, we will consider the practical application of these recommendations to a wind energy project in the region.
