New carbon market: a real lever for decarbonization or for social division?
Since 2005, the European Union has established a carbon market, which covers emissions from major industries, the aviation and maritime sectors, and the energy sectors.
In 2023, the European Union adopted a new carbon market targeting small industries, road transport, and the building and construction sectors. This new system directly affects households and will come into effect in 2028.
In this new context, how can we cope with rising energy bills for residents, and how can we avoid increasing energy poverty? Is a second wave of the Yellow Vest movement on the horizon?
Our experts, from different backgrounds, will debate the measures to be implemented to distribute the economic revenues of this system fairly and effectively, without increasing the social divide around the issues of decarbonization.
