The NEAR approach is a citizen empowerment approach. This method mobilizes, educates, and gives residents the final say in developing and determining the projects to be implemented in their neighborhood in order to both reduce residents' carbon footprint and improve their living environment.
The proposed serious game simulates the approach in a fictional neighborhood. The workshop will help participants understand the NEAR approach by exploring the challenges facing the neighborhood and identifying relevant projects for its decarbonization.
To this end, participants will take on the roles of neighborhood stakeholders (local community organizations, residents, municipal employees, etc.) as they explore the neighborhood's carbon, statistical, and geographical assessment. This assessment is a key step in the NEAR initiative. While the implementation process will be explained to participants, the assessment serves as a prerequisite for the workshop. From this initial exploration phase, participants will take turns working through the various stages of the process, which, through group discussions, aim to identify and prioritize the issues to be addressed, set local decarbonization targets, and develop local solutions to meet them.
At the end of the workshop, participants will then be able to compare their work and proposals to a concrete case of application of the NEAR approach in a Parisian neighborhood.
