Faced with the scale of investments needed to achieve carbon neutrality, Bordeaux Métropole is exploring new funding mechanisms. Voluntary carbon contributions appear to be a tool for offsetting residual emissions, but also a means of co-financing local public transition policies.
This workshop will present the initial findings of our ongoing experiment with economic and institutional stakeholders. This field-based approach aims to understand the mechanisms of carbon contribution by testing several Low Carbon Label (LCL) frameworks and laying the groundwork for a carbon offsetting strategy.
Two particularly structuring frameworks were tested:
- LBC Renovation, which helps to promote rehabilitation projects incorporating reused materials.
- The LBC Ville Arborée, which certifies urban plantings and their co-benefits.
The workshop will also be an opportunity to share the results of a study carried out as part of the experiment with several French communities, a starting point to open a dialogue with the participants and compare our points of view.
By participating, you will discover:
- feedback from carbon contribution projects,
- operational lessons for deploying a local contribution mechanism,
- the identified limitations, the levers for support and the potential deployment prospects.
