The energy transition represents a major challenge for energy distribution networks : the strong electrification of uses, the gradual phase-out of fossil fuels and in particular gas, or the rapid development of heat networks call into question the technical and economic resilience of the networks and raise questions about the ability of local authorities to support these transitions.
For several years, and more recently with the revision of their Energy Master Plan, Grenoble Alpes Métropole and the Eurométropole of Strasbourg have been defining their strategies for their electricity, gas and heat networks.
Based on a joint analysis of the three networks and a modeling specific to each, the studies carried out provide insights into the following questions:
  • What is the impact of electrification of uses on the capacity and resilience of the electrical grid?
  • How to organize a gradual phase-out of fossil gas while controlling the effects of price volatility?
  • What development of district heating networks is needed to maintain competitiveness?
This workshop will share the tools used to analyze these issues, the involvement of various stakeholders, the concrete contributions of prospective modeling in defining network trajectories, and local initiatives within a rapidly evolving national and international context. It will also share the identified challenges that remain ahead!
