The study by La Fabrique Ecologique, "Low-tech, Low-great? Rethinking work and the economy," conducted with the support of ADEME Île-de-France and published in September 2025, examines the low-tech approach from a unique perspective, not through the traditional technical lens, but via a sociological one. It highlights the "strong potential of the low-tech approach, both for social transformation and for the ecological transition," which is still insufficiently utilized.
What if we applied the low-tech approach to the energy transition? What could we learn? Not about the objects and technical issues involved, but about the energy transition itself. Technology is just a tool, after all!
Using concrete examples, such as La Cour Cyclette, a bicycle repair and sales workshop in the Île-de-France region, and examples from your own local areas, let's imagine a path toward an energy transition designed with people in mind. Working in small groups will allow us to see how to better adopt and implement a low-tech approach, for example at the local level, by identifying obstacles and possible solutions.
