How can we reduce the carbon and environmental footprint of tourism activities? What levers can be used to initiate a concrete transition with tourism operators and local authorities? These questions stem from a European cooperation project coordinated by eurêka 21, in partnership with mountain regions and the ABC association. While attractive, these regions are also particularly affected by climate change and face common challenges. European cooperation plays a crucial role in addressing these challenges, and the mountains, as sentinels of the climate, can serve as experimental laboratories for other regions.
Through this serious game, we will offer participants a scenario inspired by a tourist region committed to the transition. Following an assessment of the region's carbon footprint, the main sources of emissions from the tourism sector will have been identified.
The next step will be to select actions to collaboratively reduce these emissions. Each participant will be invited to play the role of a key local player: hotel manager, restaurant owner, elected official, association member, tour guide, etc., and to defend their point of view while listening to the arguments of their peers.
At the end of this role-playing exercise, participants will select common actions, validated by the group, the embryo of a future territorial action plan.
