Because climate change is a source of financial risk, the Bank of France is integrating it into its missions, with the ambition of contributing to collective action in the face of the challenges posed by climate change and the degradation of nature.
Because it affects growth and price stability, climate change cannot be ignored by a central bank.
As part of their missions to preserve financial stability, the Bank of France and the Prudential Control and Resolution Authority (ACPR) are working to better understand the exposure of French banks and insurance organizations to the risks associated with climate change and to ensure that they are able to cope with them.
The Bank of France also integrates climate risk into its economic services mission. It has developed an indicator to assess a company's situation in terms of its exposure to and management of these risks. Its objective is to help business leaders better understand the decarbonization trajectory of the companies they manage. It has also deployed a user-friendly tool to raise awareness among business leaders of the risks to which climate change exposes them.
